It has been very nice of late, loving computing again. I must admit the macs have reinvigorated my techno-lust. I think it is due to the learning-something-new aspect of them, combined with the fact that I get such a pleasant computing experience with UNIX underneath.
One of the best bits is dropping to Terminal...whether it be to run a looped command over a series of files, or whether it is to compile a piece of software. I've even started learning the D language finally after all these years. I've always been intrigued by it, but I just never bothered.
I very much like D. It feels like C, but easier. Which is probably part of the intent. I intend to write some more code in it beyond the simple language-learning programs I've written so far. Maybe if more people use it it will gain ground.
So I've been switched for a week now. The macbook is very sexy. The interface is amazing. I must admit that I am in love with technology for the first time in a long time.
The unified interface is cool. I like the developer tools. The dashboard and cool widgets are great (I'm posting from a widget in the dashboard right now!). I've found a lot of equivalent freeware for the various things I do. I love the payware I've bought so far (Aperture is amazing!).
Tomorrow I break open the new 24" Imac. Sexy.
No, I'm not becoming a woman...
I've gone from PC to MAC as my primary machine. The new Intel-based Macs are just too sexy, and I'm sick of funding the Gates Imperium. Add to that the desire to do photo work on the side and I decided a change was in order.
I'm typing this from the new Macbook Black, learning the ins and outs of this little bugger while I wait for the new Imac 24 to show up. Yum.
Whew. After months of planning, design, hard labor, multiple large checks, seemingly endless trips to Home Depot and Lowes, and a couple weeks of horrible diet due to lack of range and sink...the kitchen is mostly complete.
All that remains is some lighting changes, ventilation for the hood, and some more sheet-rock. And the giant fridge comes in September. Then over time we'll paint and replace the flooring. But at least now we have a working kitchen that is downright lovely.
The final pictures are in for the hood and cabinets. There will be a few more as I finish the lighting and ventilation...
